GIVE PEACE A CHANCE

The following artworks, titled 'Give Peace a Chance', based on Dr Anwer's 'Samrup Rachna' - a calligraphic expression of what he calls 'apni boli', aim to promote peace between neighbouring countries India and Pakistan. Dr Syed Mohammed Anwer is an advocate in the Supreme Court of Pakistan, based in Islamabad. He is an active member of civil society and has written books on human rights, women's emancipation and sociolinguistics. The work steps into the unexplored realm of script combinations. Dr Anwer's method thrives on creative juxtapositions of Devanagari and Nastaliq, resulting, mostly, in pictures of certain words. — Addressed in these paintings are the common drives, beliefs, customs, and adversities experienced by both nations.
